Animals in Winter

Hello, I am a Squirrel. Winter is quite challenging for me due to the cold weather and the scarcity of food. To survive, I gather as many nuts, seeds, and berries as I can during the autumn and bury them in various locations. My excellent memory helps me find these caches during the winter. I also build a well-insulated nest, called a drey, in the branches of trees to protect myself from the cold. On particularly harsh days, I stay in my warm nest and rest.

Hello, I am a Wild Boar. Winter brings many challenges for me, including finding food and staying warm. My strategy for survival involves foraging for roots, tubers, and nuts buried under the snow. I use my strong snout to dig through the frozen ground. I also rely on my thick coat and the dense forest for shelter to keep warm. Living in groups, called sounders, helps us stay safe and share the effort of finding food.

Hello, I am a Hedgehog. Winter is a time for me to hibernate because it's too cold and food is scarce. Before winter arrives, I eat a lot to build up my fat reserves. I find a safe, sheltered spot like a pile of leaves or a burrow to curl up in. During hibernation, my body temperature drops significantly to conserve energy. This way, I can sleep through the harsh winter months and wake up when it gets warmer and food is more abundant.
